Disaster recovery Hardware or software malfunctions to hard drives in workstations and servers can range from inconviently irritating to catastrophic, depending on what was stored on them and how recent your backups were taken (you do take backups don't you ?). We always stress to our clients the importance of taking regular data backups and of course ensuring that the data on the tapes or disks is usable, we have sometimes had situations where the data is never verified and when you come to try to restore it after an event find that the backup is corrupt or even non existent. It is very important that you periodically test your backups by performing a restore and checking that what you think is there is actually there. What can sometimes seem disastrous at the time very often result in complete or at worst partial restoration of data files.
